PAYPAL IS NEW MONEY

PayPal began as a simple, safe way to send money to friends and family, but its vision was far more ambitious - to give people more direct control over their money and to disrupt the financial status quo.

People have tolerated an exclusive, stagnant financial industry for far too long. Inconveniences such as ATM fees, waiting periods and the cumbersome process of sending money to other countries are all things we've come to accept.

In 2015, PayPal reintroduced itself to the world as “New Money”, proving there is a better way to move and manage your money. The New Money campaign is a symbol of innovation and a demand for real change.

Sending money all over the world is easy, but understanding people’s cultural views on money is a bit more complicated.

Through market research done by both CP+B and PayPal’s global team, we strategized to find the best way to speak to APAC and EMEA, ultimately providing a global asset pack.

Lifestyle photos captured on our international shoot were purposely thought through for each market. A copy library and translation were also provided for PayPal key market. All assets were translated to print, digital, and OOH.

 

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR MONEY IS OLD OR NEW

"How to Tell if Your Money is Old or New" is a series of 15-second pseudo-scientific 'experimental' online videos that complement the brand launch by providing more dimension and personality to New Money.

Each video demonstrated either a benefit of New Money or a shortcoming of Old Money in a humorous way. The films were inspired by educational resource videos from the late '80s and early '90s. They set up a hypothesis, show the experiment and present the conclusion that PayPal is the best option - all with the grain of a well-played VHS tape and nostalgic music.

Wind blows money right out a window, sharing ten dollars between friends leaves each with a fragment of useless paper and sending money overseas ends with a sinking bottle.

Old Money problems.

 

HULU CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE PRE-ROLL

To illustrate the efficiency of its New Money platform, PayPal worked with Hulu to create a choose your own adventure pre-roll. When Hulu users went to watch their show, instead of being given a traditional pre-roll ad, we gave them two options. 

They could either sit through a cumbersome, Old Money experience. Or they could choose a fast, easy, New Money experience that got them to their content before they even knew they were watching.
